The people of the Church of Our Saviour enjoy a very special relationship with the congregation of St. Andre's Anglican Church in Ondjiva, Angola.  In 2006 the two groups entered into a spiritual partnership. Although they speak different languages and the cost of phone calls and faxes are prohibitive, each week the congregations pray for each other.

In 2008 a group from Milford traveled to Angola. On the southwest coast of Africa, Angola is not a tourist destination. In 2002, the country emerged from a 41-year civil war in which over 1.5 million people were killed, 4 million were displaced, and much of the infrastructure was damaged or destroyed. Although it produces more oil than any other country in Africa, most live in poverty. Its infant mortality rate is one of the highest in the world. And yet the American visitors found generous and hospitable people, congregations worshiping with joy and enthusiasm under trees and in the most primitive buildings.

There is such desperate need it is hard to know where to begin.

So the visitors listened to the Angolans as they articulated their hopes. Rising above all else was a building to replace the corrugated zinc structure where they worship now.  Reaching out in faith and prayer, we share the joy and abundance we have been given through God's love. Our donations and yours can make the difference.
